Today, I continued to research of my topic of self-regulation in the primary grades. I researched the school personals view on the importance of self-regulation. According to an article I read in the Huffington Post, "kindergarten teachers rank self-regulation as one of the most important skills for school readiness"(Golinkoff R. et al, 2014). the articles continued to talk about different forms of self-regulation that are important for students to demonstrate:
Emotional: Having emotional self-regulation enables students to efficiently express and experience their emotions.
Behavioural: Having behavioural self-regulation enables students to be in control of their actions.
Cognitive: Having cognitive self-regulation allows students to follow through with directions given to them by their educators.
Consequently, what I learnt today is how both parents and school personals believe it it really important to instil effective self-regulation techniques in children.
Reflecting back on what I have learnt about myself today:
Today I've learnt to use different forms of technology like Powtoon and Animoto as a means to further present what I've learnt about my topic on self-regulation. I am still experimenting with the forms of technology and am excited to be able to combine the information I research with these technology programs.
Next steps: I am going to combine the research I've done till now on my Genius Hour question and create a movie trailer.
